was a Scottish serial killer convicted of the kidnapping and murder of four girls between the ages of 5 and 11, between 1981 and 1986 in the United Kingdom. He was convicted of sexually assaulting one of the girls, and of the rape of the other three. Black was also convicted of the kidnapping of a fifth girl, and the attempted kidnapping of a sixth.
At the time of his death, Black was weeks from being charged with the 1978 murder of Genette Tate.
In addition to the disappearance of Genette Tate, investigators had concluded in May, 1994 that Black may be responsible for 12 other unsolved child murders committed throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland and continental Europe between 1969 and 1987.
